A SUMMARY OF PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES FROM YEAR 2000


Seminar workshops in the national, division and district levels for music teachers in pre-school, elementary and secondary schools of the National Capital Region (NCR) as well as other towns, cities and provinces.

A series of annual music teaching demonstrations for teachers and music students of NCR in cooperation with the University of the Philippines College of Music, University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music and the Philippine Normal University Department of Humanities (2001 - 2006). The Dept. Ed. Division of Cavite contributed to this series in 2002 and in 2006.

 

Inauguration of the PSME Resource Center for Music and Arts in November, 2002. The fledgling Center is a modest unit housed in the Culture and Sports Building of the Philippine Normal University, the premiere teacher education institution of the country. Solicitation of materials and equipment is ongoing.


Organizing, Training and Monitoring of Himig Kawayan (Bamboo) Ensembles in selected public elementary and secondary schools, a project initially funded by the UNESCO National Commission Cultural Committee in 2003 and later on by local government units. PSME continues to hold seminar workshops in training musicians and teachers interested in putting up new Himig Kawayan ensembles.


The five-month Bamboo Culture Project Propagating and Promoting the Bamboo Plant, a nationwide festival in music, arts, crafts, architecture and industry implemented by the PSME from August to December 2005. This was a flagship project of the UNESCO National Commission for 2005.

 

A Series of Free Annotated Concerts of Philippine classic, folk, traditional and popular music performed by young musicians for elementary school pupils of NCR. These were traveling performances held in several host schools (2000 & 2001)

 

The PSME- NCCA-PNU Scholarship Program which consisted of three-summer music education programs for music teacher & scholars from all over the country (1993 - 1995; 1996 - 1998; 1999 - 2001)
